“I am so grateful to all of my friends and supporters who have given of themselves and made this campaign a success. Though we did not win this time, we raised the bar for what it means to run an effective, issues-oriented campaign at a time when seasoned incumbents were stooping down in the mud. I am proud of what we have achieved. On a lean and mean budget of only $10,000 we garnered 20% of the vote – roughly the same margin as the Kerry-Edwards presidential effort in 2004. I want to especially thank my wife, Phaedra, and my children, Pilar and Alexander, for all of the personal sacrifices they have made over the last several months. Thanks also to my staff, Rosie Flores and Brenda Esquivel and their families. Thanks to my campaign manager Kim Copeland for his dedicated effort. And a special thanks to Greg Bautista who designed this website and, through his counsel, showed me a glimpse of a future when all Georgians will make room in their hearts, in their minds, and on their ballots for Latino candidates for elected office.
